The Ulster Orchestra has announced that Daniele Rustioni will become its new Chief Conductor in September. The young Italian, currently Principal Conductor of the Orchestra della Toscana, already boasts an impressive global resume, encompassing both the symphonic and operatic domains. January saw Rustioni debut with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and he has performed at several of the world’s most prestigious opera houses, including his critically-acclaimed interpretation of Verdi’s Aida at the Metropolitan Opera in April 2017.

'I perceived a special connection with the Ulster Orchestra ever since I set foot on the podium at Ulster Hall as a guest conductor a couple of years ago', Rustioni said. 'I am delighted and profoundly grateful to take the position of Chief Conductor with this fabulous orchestra and I can hardly wait to get started, sharing inspiring music, and collaborating with all the exciting projects that are already taking shape. It will be a thrilling adventure for all of us.'

While Rustioni only has a handful of recordings under his belt, Gramophone has described the Milanese as 'a superbly intelligent guide to Ghedini’s combination of intellect and passion' in his survey of four of his compatriot’s major orchestral scores, and favourably reviewed his Deutsche Grammophon recording of concerti by Paganini and Wolf-Ferrari with his wife, violinist Francesca Dego.
